Paul Quinn Men’s Soccer Shows Promise in Early Performance, Coach Charlestin Urges Continued Growth
The Paul Quinn College men’s soccer program took an encouraging step forward in a recent performance against Mountain View Dallas that Head Coach Clark Charlestin described as “promising,” though he was quick to remind his team that the journey is far from complete.
While official scores and statistics were not recorded, Charlestin noted that, based on the run of play, Paul Quinn would have emerged the victor. Still, he emphasized that success in preseason or scrimmage environments is measured less by results and more by growth.
"There were some really exciting moments out there—moments that showed the potential of this group," Charlestin said. "But I don't want us to get comfortable. There are still too many mistakes that we need to clean up if we're going to reach the level, I know we're capable of."
The Tigers displayed flashes of creativity and composure, with strong sequences of ball movement and attacking pressure, but lapses in decision-making and defensive discipline left the coaching staff with plenty to address in the coming weeks. For Charlestin, those challenges are not discouraging but rather a roadmap for the program's development.
"This is about building something sustainable," he added. "If the guys focus on the details and continue to grow every day, the future of Paul Quinn men's soccer is going to be very bright."
With a roster that blends developing talent and hungry newcomers, the Tigers appear to be laying the foundation for a competitive season. The performance may not have been flawless, but for Charlestin and his squad, it was the kind of step forward that builds belief while fueling the desire to push harder.
