Paul Quinn Edges Texas A&M–San Antonio in 63–62 Thriller
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — November 15, 2025. Paul Quinn College survived a wire-to-wire battle on the road Sunday afternoon, escaping with a 63–62 win over Texas A&M–San Antonio in a game defined by momentum swings, physical interior play, and timely shot-making at both ends. The Tigers’ victory came only after they erased a late first-half deficit, traded blows throughout the second half, and finally held off the Jaguars’ final push in the closing seconds.
A First Half of Runs
Texas A&M–San Antonio jumped out early behind the inside presence of Felix Greif, who scored the Jaguars' first six points and helped TAMUSA build an 11–4 lead. But Paul Quinn's response came from its veteran backcourt: TJ Mitchell slashed to the rim for two early layups, while forward Isaiah McCallum powered through contact for multiple finishes.
The Jaguars kept answering, eventually building a 26–17 advantage thanks to Carson Brown's activity on the glass and transition scoring. But Paul Quinn seized momentum behind a late surge from McCallum and Mekhi Johnson, who converted a tip-in and added a key free throw to pull the Tigers back within one.
TAMUSA would retake the lead 31–30 just before halftime after a free throw from Fotis Hristopoulos, giving them a slim cushion at the break.
Second Half: A One-Point Game All the Way Down
If the first half was defined by swings, the second was pure survival.
Paul Quinn opened the half with a 5–0 burst — a McCallum layup followed by a Johnson three — to go up 35–31. But TAMUSA quickly countered behind Aaron Harden, who provided much-needed scoring off the bench, finishing perfect from the field (3-for-3).
The Tigers' biggest second-half lift came unexpectedly from John Harrison, who delivered five straight points midway through the half, including a momentum-building three that put Paul Quinn ahead 44–39.
TAMUSA wouldn't go away. Filip Radulovic and Tim Bradford chipped in timely scoring, and Carson Brown — the Jaguars' most efficient performer with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting — kept them within striking distance.
From the 10-minute mark onward, the margin never exceeded four points.
Final Minutes: PQC Hangs On
Down the stretch, both teams struggled to convert open looks, trading empty possessions and defensive stops. TAMUSA closed the gap to one possession multiple times, but Paul Quinn repeatedly answered with key rebounds and just enough scoring to stay in front.
McCallum's physical play made a defining difference. Though he shot just 5-for-15 from the field, he earned 10 trips to the line and finished with a game-high 18 points, adding five boards and three steals.
TAMUSA had a chance to steal the lead in the final moments, but the Tigers forced a contested look, secured the rebound, and ran out the clock to seal the 63–62 win.
